I have recorded a clip on my Sony DVD recorder and I need to duplicate it using my macbook pro to give to my friend. I tried your tip using the disk utility to make a DMG file and then burn it to a new DVD but it does not work. I have tried 3 times and the disk are not recognized.
Can you give me another solution for doing this.

It is hard to tell without being there, but I think where you went wrong is that a Disc made with a DVD recorder would be of a certain basic DVD format. I forget the name. But by making a .dmg file you were basically taking the files from that DVD and creating a Mac-formatted disk image. Then you burned that to a new DVD. So you had a data DVD that was Mac formatted, not a DVD-player formatted DVD disc.
I'd imagine that to duplicate a DVD player disc you need to use software that can do that. Disk Utility is for handling data discs, so it won't work. Maybe Toast? Something else?
Thanks so much Gary for the quick response.
I will look into finding a soft to do that then ;-)
Have a great day
