Gary, does it concern you that we’re waving goodbye to unlimited data plans at the same time files and apps are moving from HDs to iCloud and other cloud services? Are ISPs the next “big oil” where we pay whatever the price because we need them?

iCloud and internet access

I think they are unrelated. ISPs (at least the Cable companies) have been trying to get us off of unlimited for a while now. Cloud services are just a natural evolution of how software should work.
I think there is a problem, though. As people use the net for video more and more, the limited plans are going to be trouble. They can get away with it now because they claim that only a few percent use a lot of bandwidth. But soon that few percent will grow to a majority as we get movies online instead of on disc or one-way video (cable/satellite). Then competition will win out in a free market. We'll move to the service that offers unlimited. Then the limited services will have to go back to unlimited to compete.
I hope you're right about free market competition, but that scenario hasn't played out at the pumps. What makes you think cloud access will be different?
Can't compare gasoline to data access. They are just too different.
