I haven't done this recently, but I once used Brasso to do it. It is a bit of a harsh treatment and I would only do it if you really want to take out the scratches, but at the same time don't mind if you mess it up. Also, I tried it on a 3rd gen iPod with a metal back -- I think the materials have changed since then.
