Since upgrading to an iPhone 4s, when my MacBook Pro awakens it announces to me that other devices are sharing the IP address. The odds are that the cause is iOS 5 and all the new wireless goings on, but I thought I’d check with you as to whether it’s a harmless thing. (I never got such an alert with iOS 4.) Thanks.

Could be But even if it is, the real cause would by your wifi router not assigning IP addresses correctly. Perhaps it is re-assigning your Mac's IP address too quickly, so it goes to your iPhone and then when your Mac wakes up it sees a conflict.
Check in your router's settings. I don't know which type you have, so it is hard to advise you past that.
Airport Extreme. Any further advice is welcome, because I'm not sure what I'd be looking to change.
OK. Then you use the Airport Utility application to check the settings on it. I'd look in there. Maybe sure it is using DHCP and assigning IP addresses to each device. The alternative is that it is giving out IP addresses from your cable modem or DSL. If it does that, I could see that happening. It should be assigning its own internal IP addresses.
This was happening to me even before iOS 5. Still no idea why, but it's definitely not unique to iOS 5.
How do you (John Russell and Johnny) have your router configured? Is it assigning IPs via DHCP? Does your ISP require you to use bridging mode from its DSL or cable "modem"?
As a first troubleshooting step, you could try restarting your router – and while your router is restarting, restart your networked devices, too.
