What Is the Best Dictation Software For Mac?

I can not type for long, so I need to dictate. I used to use Dictate for Mac, but it no longer works well with Mac. I used a headset to better eliminate background noice. I haven’t found a good substitute, including Mac’s built in dictation program. What are suggestions for the best dictation software and a good microphone/headset to go with it? I have macOS Mojave 10.14.3 and use PAGES, NUMBERS and MAIL mostly.

I think your only decent option is to use the Mac's built-in dictation. Are you using Enhanced Dictation? Do you have that turned on?
Then it may just be a matter of getting used to how it is different than what you used before. Switching from one system to another, no matter what the application, is going to take some adjustment.
Did you have a particular issue with the built-in dictation?

Thanks. Enhanced Dictation is very good for a couple paragraphs, but it does not allow jumping around by voice in longer works to dictate corrections. Dragon Dictate was superb at that, but now works only on Microsoft. I am very surprised that Apple MACs do not have or support similar dictation software. Any other suggestions?

Bruce: I don't think there are any others. But can't you jump around in a document using mouse/keyboard? You mentioned in your original question that you can't type for long. But you can type some, correct? I sometimes use dictation myself and I find the best results are to combine dictation and my hands. I can do 99% of it with dictation and the other 1% it is far faster to move the cursor or correct a word by hand. But the result is that I give my hands a big rest while at the same time speeding up my text input.

Thanks. That's what I will do. Can you recommend a headset to use?

Bruce: I have a very old Plantronics headset that they don't make anymore, so I can't recommend one, sorry. Look at reviews on Amazon and compare prices vs quality.

My Dragon Dictate V3 got corrupted, so I tried to reinstall, but it won't work on OS 10.10, Is there any solution?

Stephen: Have you contacted Dragon support? They would be the ones to help.

I have Dragon Dictate for Mac and am using Mojave 10.14.4 and Dragon works perfectly. However, what I do is to dictate into a small digital recorder, plus into my Mac and then Dragon transcribe it into text on Word. Works very well.

Patricia Farrell - how are you getting dragon to work with your 10.14.4? Whenever I try to open the program I get a message about incompatibility, when I choose to continue anyway it opens an email with troubleshooting report - and then quits.
