Can I Copy My “Pictures” Folder and All It’s Contents To an External Drive?

Can I move my “Pictures” folder and all it’s contents to an external drive?
I have a fast external RAID drive with a lot of space. I want to move my Pictures folder and maybe other folders from my Home folder to this drive. Will my Photos application and other applications work properly?

That's not the right way to go about it. What you should do is to create a Pictures folder on your External Drive. Then carefully move your Photos library there. Do it while Photos is not running, of course. Then run Photos and select the new library location.
If that is all you have in your Pictures folder, then you are set. If you have something else there, then move that too, but in a similar way if it is tied to an app.
Leave the empty Pictures folder there, as you never know when some app will look for it. Can't hurt.
Also, now that your Photos library is on an external drive, make sure it is getting backed up as it was before (I assume). Don't back up to the same external drive, for obvious reasons.

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense. Yes, everything backed up.
