DVD watching conflicts with network

When we watch a DVD on our home entertainment system, we can’t get on the Internet with our MacBook Pros. The network quits. When I turn off the DVD player, the network is again accessible by the computers. I can’t swear to it, but I think this is just a recent problem. For what it’s worth, we have an aging Airport Extreme that sits immediately next to the DVD player. Any ideas on what’s going on?

Sounds like the DVD player is simply interfering with the wifi signal.
Experiment: move the Airport base station away from the DVD player. One foot. Three feet. More. See if that works. Try different things. It should be easy to prove that the DVD player is interfering.
If so, then you simply can keep the two apart. Or, get a new DVD player. Or, change the channel settings in your base station. Though I would get a new DVD player as it seems to be the cause of the problem.
