How do I back up my Virtual Machine?

I run Windows 7 through Parallels on my iMac. What files should I back up (in addition to my documents) in case I have to restore the VM. I use Time Machine with an external disk and Carbonite online backup.

Do you mean what files do you need to back up INSIDE of Windows? Or which files do you need to backup on your Mac that Parallels uses?
I'm not sure about the first, but for the second I would ask on the Parallels support pages about that. They would know what Parallels needs and uses and how to back it up. Though I assume that if they are just normal files in your documents folder that they would be backed up by Time Machine.

My documents (spreadsheets, Word docs, etc.) are backed up and I can always reload Windows 7 and Parallels. I guess what I was asking about is the VM configuration settings. I will check with Parallels support.

If they are standard preferences files in your Library folder (they should be) then Time Machine has been backing them up.

I am new to Mac - not sure where things are kept - thanks for your help.
