My Event names in the iMovie Library column are too long to fully display. Like in most Apps, I can see the column drag symbol when moused over, but the column will not drag to increase or decrease. I find no obvious option to let me change this column width.

How Do I Change the Libaries Column Width In iMovie 10.1.10?

I just tried it and I definitely can drag that line to the right of the library column. But it seems to be restricted by the size of the iMovie window. Doing it on my MacBook Pro 13-inch, there isn't much room for movement. I can expand the column only maybe 10% before it reaches its maximum size, or more likely before the display area to the right of it reaches its minimum size.
But when I tried it on my Mac Pro with a 30-inch monitor I could expand the library column much more, since there was much more screen space. Even on my MacBook Pro I was able to move the whole iMovie window around and expand it beyond the width of the screen. And then I could make the library column larger as there was more space. That's not very useful though as then I can't see the whole window.
So maybe this is your issue too? What size screen do you have?
27" iMac Late 2014, Mac Ver 10.13.6. I've tried changing the Display resolution to "Scaled" and "Default for display" Also resized the window and still can not alter the Libraries column size. This is not new in that over the past few years I've tried this with little success. I used to be able to alter it a little, but now not at all. I see about 17 characters. No big deal, just though I was missing some obvious parameter. Thanks Gary
John: A 27-inch screen should give yo plenty of room. Perhaps start by going to Window, Revert to Original Layout to see if that helps.
I also have a 15" MacBook Pro 2016 running 10.13.6. I just opened iMovie on it and am unable to change the column size of the Libraries (under Media), there either.
Revert to Original Layout is grayed out.
John: That probably means you are already at those settings. I wonder if it isn't time to try deleting your iMovie preferences to see if that helps.
Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, here is a video of me moving the column line I think we are talking about: https://imgur.com/a/MXpu5oZ
Ahhh! If I have a project 'opened' (can see the timeline at the bottom), YES I now can resize the column. GREAT. What I was doing is trying to resize the left column 'before' I opened a project. In that instance, you see only "Library" at the top. After a project is opened, you see "Project Media" at the top. Thanks for sharing the video clip so I could see the difference. Thanks Gary!
John: Great!
