Which Calendar icon? Do you mean the one in the Dock? That should show the current date and there's no setting for it -- it should just work. If it is not working for you, then I would try the standard things like log out and back in, or restart. These may clear up any issue.
The Calendar icon in the Dock definitely shows me the correct date on all of my Macs with Sierra installed.
Thank You restart worked. It was the icons on both the Dock and the apps page.
