How do I import pictures to the iPad with a USB drive?

I have the iPad 2 and the Camera kit. I am able to import pictures from a SD card. I am also able to import a picture that I copied from my SD card to a DCIM folder on my USB drive. It also work importing any picture through iTunes.
My issue is when I put any other jpeg impage that I did not directly copy from my iPhone or SD card into the DCIM folder the iPad will not see it. Looking at the pictures the only difference I can see is that the jpeg from my camera has camera attibutes while the jpeg from my PC does not.
Tired of searching for an answer. Hopefully someone else has seen this and figured it out.
Thank you

So you are trying to make your USB flash drive look like an SD card? I'd imagine there is a different anyway. The format of the flash drive is different than a camera's SD card.
So why not use the SD card? Try putting the file on there and importing from the SD card.

I have moved files to the SD card from my PC and they will not import. The odd thing is if I move files from the SD card to the USB drive they will then import from the USB drive. My theory is that the iPad looks for something in the property of the file such as the Camera model. This is not present on some jpg's.

Hard to say. Why not just import them when syncing with your computer if this isn't going to work?

Update. I searched through some more forums and found that the issues seems to be that the file name must be 8 characters and all caps. It seems to work from a USB if these criteria are met. Very odd but it works.
