How do I get my Macbook to scan all my photos to place them in people?

To do this, first click on People to go there. You should then see any people that you have already added (or maybe none). You should also see a but + button with the text "Add People" under it. Click on that.
You should see that the Photos app has already identified people, but it doesn't know who they are. How can it? So click on one of the groups there and then click Add at the top right. This will add the group of Photos to People and you will be taken back to the People view.
Notice that there is no name under the photo. Click there to add a name.
Then repeat the process for all of the people that have been identified.
You'll also find you can select multiple items and use the Merge & Add button to make it faster. If you find people there that you already have a group for, just change the name to the same name and it will ask if you wish to merge the groups.

I'd never tried this 'naming' since it had been improved. Fantastic. Thanks Gary
