Is there a free one? Ideally I need to be able to convert the SVCD disc to a simple MPEG.

What sort of files do you get from an SVCD? Have you tried the suggestions here: http://macmost.com/importing-incompatible-video-into-imovie.html
Hi Gary, and thanks for the reply. I have several CDs I made using Studio software (Windows) in SVCD format. The CD contents are a mystery to me. It plays happily on most Windows software and also on any ordinary DVD player. But not my Mac, it seems. I've searched the internet and found a few suggestions. But they are all very geeky and hard to implement. I wish I had not got rid of my old PC.
The CD contents are in four folders as follows:
folder named EXT (empty)
folder named SEGMENT (empty)
folder named SVCD (has several files with extension .SVD and also SEARCH.DAT)
folder MPEG2 (AVSEQ01.MPG, AVSEQ02.MPG etc.)
Many thanks again,
Ben
Those MPEG2 files are your videos. Try using something like VLC to convert them to another format. And see the video I mentioned above.
You could also try Flv Crunch its a handy little converter and its Free. I forgot all about it,and i went to the site and they have upgraded it. Gary
