What Are Finder Settings To View a PAGE Of File Icons Sorted By DATE?

In Finder/Downloads I want to view file icons as a page sorted by DATE ADDED- how?
(when view/icons & arrange/date is selected I get the left/right cover flow style- not user-friendly)
Thanks for your expertise! You make Mac more enjoyable!

So Arrange and Sort are two different things. If you want to sort the files by some criteria, then turn off arranging (set to None) and then put them in list view. Then click on the column headings at the top to change the sort order. Click twice to reverse the order.
If you don't see a column with the criteria you want, then use Command+J and turn on some more columns.
