First Snow Leopard Update, MobileMe and Apple TV

Apple wasted no time releasing the first dot-update to Snow Leopard. Version 10.6.1 was pushed over Software Update about two weeks ago and is mainly about bug fixes, not new features.
The fixes concern Sierra wireless modems, DVD playback, printer compatibility, the Dock, account setup in Mail and other Mail bugs. There are also some security patches, most likely the same ones rolled out in security updates for both Tiger and Leopard.
MobileMe has also been upgraded with minor features. One is the ability to set the passcode on your iphone remotely. The “Play a Sound” option in MobileMe has been changed to play the sound at maximum volume. There are also a variety of improvements as to how calendars sync, and how you are alerts of conflicts and changes when syncing calendars and contacts.
There is also some movement in the Apple TV department. Apple has discontinued the original 40GB version and has dropped the price on the remaining 160GB version to $229.
In the rumors arena, there is speculation that the mythical Apple Tablet won’t be making an appearance until February.

I was wondering if you had heard anything about Apple updating the iMac line. I have seen on other Apple forums and blogs (ie. macrumors and apple insider) that Apple may be announcing new iMacs soon, within a few weeks. The reason I am asking is, I was just a couple days away from going to an Apple Store here in Houston and purchasing a 24" iMac 2.66GHz all in one, (I will be a "new to mac" pc to mac converter) but when I saw that rumors are swirling that Apple was about to come out with updated iMac line, I definitely want to wait to get a new redesigned iMac. What do you think, should I wait???

Hard to say. There are always rumors of new Macs coming out. I don't have any inside info. I myself don't worry about rumors as I buy a new machine when I need it, not based on rumors. I know people that have gotten burned when they bought a new Mac days before a new model comes out. But I have also known people who have been burned when they decided to wait on a rumor only to have nothing new come out for months.

OK, thanks for the fast reply. I guess I will wait another few weeks and if no new news comes out by mid-october I'll go ahead and get the iMac. Also was wondering if you knew when your book will be out on amazon.com. I want to buy it. Hopefully it will be available by the time I am ready to buy my iMac.

It should be out by the end of the month. Hard to tell, exactly, though.
