As far as I can tell from searching forums similar to this one, my iPhone has a malady with a unique combination of symptoms.
Early today, my iPhone screen went all white and the iPhone became unresponsive. I tried the usual set of fixes, such as holding power+home and toggling the silent switch and all that. All the iPhone would do was switch between a blank (off) screen and a fully white screen.
Eventually, I managed to get iTunes to recognize it and I restored it.
Now, I have a fully functional iPhone, except that the screen still displays all white. From what I have been able to find from memory on the screen, I can unlock the phone, take pictures with the camera, take screenshots, play music over the built-in speakers, receive text messages, change my ringtone, make and receive phone calls, etc. The catch is, I can’t see any of what I’m doing.
I have an iPhone 3G that is fully updated, and was fully updated prior to the restore. I was not updating apps when the iPhone first went haywire, and to my knowledge there was no data download or upload going on at all, my phone was simply asleep in my pocket.
If anyone has any fixes, please help!
Last resort, of course is to take it to an Apple or AT&T Store.
Thanks!

Sounds to me like a hardware problem. Don't go to AT&T, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store. They will probably be much more helpful.
I have the same issue. everything works fine, vibrates when you switch the vibrate tab on, unlocks when you slide your finger towards the bottom of the screen and locks when you press the sleep button. and makes all the sounds. but the screen's white and has nothing on it.
only difference between you and I is that my symptoms appeared after water damage
can you please post back with the solution if you ever managed to fix it? share share share
update: my screen's back on and everything's fine. I can see and read everything on the screen again. no more WSoD.
only thing is that it's awefully bright and all the colors are blown out to a white tint. even if I lower the brightness in the settings, the colors remain very washed out. this happened by itself, the WSoD dissapeared alone a couple days later, but now this seems to be taking more time to heal
There is always SOME issue w iPhones, it's ridiculous, you pay a million dollars, then something that's not your fault goes wrong, then you have to pay another million to fix it. I absolutely LOVE my iPhone but am so sick of hearing these problems w it. My ringer display is stuck, I have to turn the volume down for it to disappear then when I open any app or lock then go back to my home screen, uggghhh!! So annoying!!! Is this a hardware problem??
Hard to say. Have Apple take a look. Sounds like software, but it could be the button being stuck. I've had many iPhones since the first model -- never any problems. So I wouldn't say "always."
