Can I Use One AirPort Unit To “Time Machine” Both My iMac and a New Ext. HD?

Have recently acquired an EHD to move my Aperture photo library to so as to free up storage space on my iMac. This has been done. I now realize that once I delete Aperture from my Mac it will no longer be backed up by Time machine. Thus, I need to back up my EHD. I am hoping there is a way to use my already existing AirPort/ Time machine arrangement to back up both.

If you are backing up your Mac to Time Machine, then it should be backing up all drives connected to your Mac. That is, unless you have excluded that drive. Check in System Preferences, Time Machine, Options.

You can confirm that it is backing up this drive by simply trying to restore a file from it. Have you tried that?

Also, note that if you only connect the drive for a limited time, Time Machine won't have time to back it all up.
