How Do I Capture Mouse Pointer With Mojave Screen Capture Utility?

When using Mojave’s screen capture utility to capture a selection, I choose the “5 second delay” and “Show Mouse Pointer” options. But the mouse pointer doesn’t show up in the screen capture. Am I forgetting something?

No, if you have those options, then the cursor will show up. But are you trying to capture only a portion of the screen? Try capturing the whole screen to see the cursor. You can easily crop it after the capture to the area you want.

So the mouse pointer shows up only on full screen captures? Not very useful. I have to do many captures of the same browser window for a course. I was hoping to save time by setting the capture area once so all my captures would automatically be the exact same size at the time of capture. But if I have to fiddle around to crop the full screen capture in order to get exact same size of final image, then it'll be easier to capture a selection and add a PNG mouse pointer on top.

Jean-Claude: Not sure if it is a bug or by design. Experiment with the different shortcuts and options. And also there many different third-party screen capture apps with all sorts of features so you may want to try those instead.

Yes I use SnagIt for screen captures, but I have to add the pointer and save the file, which is few extra steps. I figured it would be faster if I could add the mouse pointer with the Mac's screen capture utility and add it directly to my document. Oh well... nothing is perfect!

    Thanks for your help!

Jean-Claude: Doesn't SnagIt have an option to automatically add the cursor and save to clipboard? If not, try another app. There are so many I'm sure you'll find one that works the anything you want.
