How Do I Change the Destination Folder When I Move an Email?

I have two company specific similarly named email folders within the mail app – one for pre 2020 emails and one for 2020 emails. When I click on a new email to move it, the suggested location defaults every time to the pre 2020 folder! How do I force mail to recognise the new folder and then suggest that as the folder to move it to? Thank you.

You can't do anything to customize the "suggestions." So instead just drag and drop. Drag the email from the list to the proper mailbox in the left sidebar.

Or, select Message, Move To, and then the mailbox you want. Since those are menu items, you can always set up keyboard shortcuts for those as well in System Preferences.

Thanks for the speedy response. It’s such a shame that there’s no way to customise the destination folder but at least I now know there isn’t so I can just get on with it! Thanks again.

Peter: Well, it is just a "suggested" option -- you can send the message to any folder you want one of several ways. So you have complete control.
