What, exactly, about the quality are you concerned about?
Keep in mind that DVD are standard definition TV. So if you have a photograph taken with a modern digital camera it is many times the resolution of standard definition. For instance, it could be 2048x1536 in size, but TV is 720x480.

Can I ask what the DVD us for? A business? Family? Because you can make really nice slideshows in iMovie and instead of exporting to iDVD, just export as a high quality file (h.264)

Use iDVD just like you were. But the quality will be at standard def TV level, not what you see on your computer screen.

Since you say you are new. Not sure if you know you can make slideshows right in iPhoto. Check out Gary's podcast on it. Heck of a lot easier:)

i am told roxio toast platinum 11 will produce better dvd burning than idvd.have not tried it yet,but i have same quality problem.i used to use roxio on my pc that was fine so i think i will give roxio for mac a try, though its pricey.
