Should I Update Apps On My iPhone 7?

I have an iPhone 7. I’m getting notified daily lately of numerous app updates.

The description almost always says the update optimizes the app for iPhone 10.

If I do the update, does it mean the app is no longer optimized for my iPhone 7? Should I not do the update?

You should always update. Updates include security and bug fixes. At the very least you need the security fixes. Bug fixes will increase the stability (and maybe battery life too) of your iPhone.

When an app update says it includes optimizations for the iPhone X, it doesn't mean that it isn't optimized for the iPhone 7 anymore. Ideally it is optimized for both. Of course an app developer can do what they want, but in almost all cases it just means it will work better with the iPhone X, and no change for how it works on the iPhone 7.

I have my iPhone set to automatically update apps. I recommend that. It is important to stay up-to-date if for no other reason than security. But I also don't want to be bothered to do it manually. I don't even think about it anymore -- my iPhone just have the latest versions of everything.
