Upgrade Single Core MacBook

I have inherited a first generation 1.83 GHz MacBook with 1.25 gb. of memory. It’s pretty slow, and what I am planning on doing is using it as a media server. Do you have any suggestions on what might be done cheaply to speed it up a bit?

Your best bet is probably upgrading the memory. There is no way to upgrade the processor. You could probably upgrade the drive, but I'm not sure what you have now, and it may not be worth the price. Maybe get an external drive if you need more space.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard (if it isn't there already) may give you a speed boost too. I have an old Mac mini with a single core and it got a speed boost from Snow Leopard over Leopard.
