Infinity Blade by Epic Games was often held up by Apple in keynote presentations and advertisements as an example of amazing console-like graphics on the iPad and iPhone. But now Epic has pulled all three games from the iOS App Store, saying it is too difficult to continue support.
While some are saying this is a bad sign for the App Store ecosystem, others point out that it is not usually for game studios to retire old games. The original Infinity Blade was released in 2010, and sequels in 2011 and 2013, making even the latest installment more than five years old. Supporting old games requires updates to match new versions os iOS, new devices with new screens, occasional new content, server resources and customer support.
