Share Maps Directions and Locations From Mac to iPhone

You can get directions using the Maps app on your Mac, and then send those directions to your iPhone. You an also set points or create favorite locations one one devices and then share it with the other.

Video Transcript: One of the great things about having Apple devices, a Mac on your desktop and then an iPhone in your pocket, is that you can do things like figure out directions on your Mac and then send them to your iPhone so you have them as you're actually traveling.
For instance here I'm in the Maps app on my Mac. I'm using Sierra and I'm going to go to Directions. I'm going to find some directions here. It's going to give me the map here and I can choose the route I want to take. So I'll choose this route here and I've got my directions here on the left. I can choose Drive, Walk, or Public Transit. I'm all ready to go. I can study these and memorize these and go on my trip.
Or I can go to File, Share and I can send it to my iPhone. So I'm going to send it to my iPhone 7+ right now. Then you can see on my iPhone I got a little notification that it was sent to me.
Let's tap that notification and, sure enough, there are the directions. I can hit the Go button and it will start navigating.
I can also send other things besides directions. For instance I can Control click here on the map and hit Drop Pin. It will drop a pin for a marked location. I can get info on it, get directions to it. I can also Share that to my iPhone. You can see here a Maps Location. I hit Show and it will show me that location as well. I can Add it to Favorites on my iPhone.
I could have also added it to Favorites here. So let's do that here. Let's hit Pepsi Center here. Hit I and I can see down here at the bottom I can Add to Favorites. Now in the Maps app here I can actually go and search for places. But I can look at this list of Favorites here and I should see the Pepsi Center appear. There it goes. It just took a second but you saw it appeared and I can get to it.
So it's easy to add Favorites that way and just have iCloud sync them rather than sharing directly using the Share function.

I was able to send direction to my iphone but did not see any way to save it to Favorites. I have an iphone 6 and am running version 10.0.06. Thanks.

Can you change the route that is shown on the map using fingers?

Allen: Maps on both Mac and iOS will often show you multiple routes and then you can click/tap to choose the route.

I was able to send directions and a dropped pin (per your video instructions) to my iPhone 6S. However, when I marked a site as a Favorite in Maps, it did not show up on the iPhone as a Favorite. I probably have some setting turned off on the phone -- any suggestions? Many thanks for the excellent video.

Julie: As long as you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, it should show up.

Thanks for the reply, Gary. Yes, same Apple ID for MacBook and iPhone. Does iCloud Drive need to be activated for Favorites sync to work? It isn't on my devices. Thanks again.

Julie: No, iCloud Drive shouldn't be needed. Just the "Safari" item under iCloud Settings.

Safari is toggled on in iCloud on both. iOS 10.1.1 Sierra 10.12.1. Map Favorites sync doesn't work in either direction, even with a restart of both devices. Suspect it is something related to iCloud. I'll keep trying. Thank you for your help and suggestions.
