To share a piece of text from a document or web page, just select the text, control+click on it and look for the Share submenu. You can quickly send the text as a message, an email, tweet it or select from many other options depending on what you have installed and configured.

This tip didn't work for me. I highlighted the text above, held down Control, and left clicked on my magic mouse. No Share submenu appeared. Did I miss something?
Susan: Are you using the latest version of OS X?
Same for me ... all I got was the usual submenu for a right-ckick.
I use OSX 10.10.5 and this tip only works from a web page, it doesn't work from a pdf, a word doc, or an email.
This works on my iPad but seems to be word-count dependent, e.g., I could share about half the text in the discussion above but when my selection got beyon a certain point, my options were reduced to only "copy". Why is this?
PamW: makes sense as many forms of sharing like text and Twitter have character limits.
I'm using OS X 10.11.4 and it works for me. I can also share the whole page by using Share, under File, to email, messages and more.
