You can yes, but DON"T DO IT. I can't think of one single reason why you would need to uninstall it. If you like using another browser instead, like Firefox, then install that and use it. Set it to be your default browser. Remove Safari from your Dock if you like. But don't uninstall it. It doesn't take up much space and you never know when you might need it for something or want an alternative browser. If you decided that you want Safari back later, it will be tough to re-install.
Thanks Gary I won't uninstall safari I will just make firefox my default browser.

I am trying to uninstall the 5.1 version of safari because the app has flaws and it does not allow me to send mail...how may I get rid of it and go back to the old version???
That's a pretty difficult process. There are some tutorials around, but I haven't tried it. I would try to look for the real problem -- maybe some extensions not working with 5.1? Try turning them all off. Not sure what you mean by "send email" though.
My privacy tab is blank. There are numerous entries online about this problem, but I can't find a solution. I use to be able to view and edit my cookies in Safari. Now I can't even view my privacy tab under preferences. I think it has something to do with some plug-in I installed awhile back. Have you heard of a fix or an alternative way of viewing my cookies?
I think that is a problem caused by a bad third-party plug-in (maybe SIMBL.osax). See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3199034
My daughter was using my MBP and when I got it back, there were 2 other Safari icons in my Dock along with the one I use. I tried to remove them by just dragging them off but they went back and did not "poof" out like they should've. I did drag the Safari (the one I use) off of Dock and it disappeared. I shut down my computer and when it re-booted, only one Safari icon was present but it was still one that should not be there. I did move it to where I had mine originally, but when I still try to remove it by dragging it from the Dock, it returns to the Dock. I would like to get rid of this one and drag the one from my App. folder back to where it was. Any help would be appreciated.
All running apps are shown in the Dock, whether they are permanently in the Dock or not. So when you remove Safari from the Dock, is it running at the time? Then it would reappear, yes.
So I'm not sure what the problem is. If you have one Safari icon in the Dock, isn't that what you want?
