On a restart sometimes the menu bar’s gray background is missing??

Sometimes on a restart the gray background strip on the menu bar (the menu with the apple menu) is missing. I’ll the date, bluetooth icon etc but †he background is of the desktop. On the left the icons are gone (apple icon for the apple menu etc.)

When I click on the menu bar the gray background comes back as well as all the icons on the left.

Should I be worried or just another annoyance bug?

That's odd. Have you ever installed anything that alters the appearance of the menu bar -- I know there are some things out there that do it. Perhaps one didn't get uninstalled completely?
I'm sure a re-install of the OS would fix it, but if it isn't causing any real issues, I wouldn't waste the effort.

Now, the the sidebar icons are going to that icon of a white blank sheet of paper even though I have the default blue icon folders on them. :( I have my data on a separate hard drive. Would re-installing the OS be a hassle? Would I have to erase my system hard disk to do a re-install? I just installed Final Cut Studio and that took 90 minutes. If I don't have to re-install my app's I would definitely re-install the OS.

If I just have to re-install the OS and the app's on the system hard disk, but my data is fine since it's on a separate hard disk I would seriously consider it re-installing to get rid of the annoying bugs.

How would I go about it? Boot from the Install DVD, erase system drive (hopefully I don't have to) then install 10.6?

Ooops, forgot to answer your question. Never installed anything that altered the appearance of the menu bar. My whole setup is only a couple of weeks old.

I also have Mobile Me would that make re-installing easier?

Or is there way to just re-install the OS without disturbing the app's on the system hard disk?

    Thanks!

A standard OS re-install will just replace the OS, not your data. Just follow the options carefully. And, of course, make sure you have a current backup of everything before you try it anyway.

I have the same problem sometimes. I think it must be a bug somehow, since I've never installed anything odd either...
