Automatic Safari start up

when I set Safari to start automatically when I log in, the dock icon moves but the application does not open on screen

    What happens when you start Safari by clicking on the Dock icon? Does it start OK? Try removing Safari from the log in list and adding it again.

    I looked and noticed that the hidden box was checked, I unchecked the box and things are fine. What would the purpose of the hidden feature be.
