How Can I Make Siri Play Only Music That Is In the Music Library On My iPhone?

I like to use my AirPods Pro2 to command Siri to play specific music (playlists, artists, songs, albums) that resides in the Music app on on my iPhone 11 Pro. Most of the time Siri uses my cellular connection to play music from Apple Music rather than playing the music that resides on my iPhone. Is there a way to force Siri to play only the music in my Music Library and prohibit her from going to Apple Music.

I want to play my own playlists also I do not want to use cellular data to listen to music.

You have a lot of different options. I think the one that fits you best, since you want to play your own playlists, is to simply download those playlists.

In the Music app, go to your playlist. Then tap the down-arrow icon at the top to download all of the songs. Do this while connected to Wi-Fi, of course. Then just use Siri to play that playlist later.

You can also go to Settings, Music and turn off Cellular Data to make sure any songs you ask Siri to play are local.

You can also go to Audio Quality there and set the Cellular Streaming quality to High Efficiency to lower your data usage but still be able to stream whatever songs you want.

A couple of things. All of my music that I want to listen to has been downloaded to my iPhone. I have turned off cellular data as you suggest. When I asked Siri to “Play the album This Years Model” she responded with “On it, playing This Years Model by Elvis Costello on Apple Music. There was a connection problem” she then started playing the album that was on my iPhone in the first place. Is there anyway to prevent Siri from accessing Apple Music for my requests like when I’m connected to Wi-Fi

Jonathan: Did you turn off Cellular Data completely? Or just in the MUSIC app settings? Even when you are playing local songs, you are still "using" Apple Music. You just aren't downloading from Apple Music at that moment, but using the cache of songs you have on your iPhone.

I just have Cellular turned off as you suggested in the Music App Settings only. I guess I’m confused about how the Music App works. I have around 130 GB of music (including tons of playlists) stored on my iPhone. Why does Siri always want to play requested music from Apple Music site via a network connection when I have the music already stored locally on my iPhone. My goal is to use my iPhone like an old fashioned iPod. I think I’m missing a basic concept as to how Siri uses the Music app.

Jonathan: Does it behave like you want when you just use the Music app? So is it Siri that is the problem, or is it the Music app that is the problem?

It works fine with the Music App so it sounds like it’s a Siri problem great point. Too bad when I walk it would be nice to not have to take my gloves off, remove my iPhone from my pocket, take off my sunglasses so that I can see the screen just to play a new album. It is what it is. Thanks for your time.
