What Is a Good App To Cull Photographs Before Sending To the Cloud?

I’m trying to cull through numerous photos from my digital camera. I’m looking for two things:

1. a way to download my photos from my camera’s SD card to my laptop without having all of those photos uploading to iCloud.

2. an app other than Preview or Photos where I can open all of the photos from my SD card and easily and quickly scroll through the photos to cull the ones that are out of focus or not wanted.

Why not just use the Finder? Connect the card to your Mac, open it up in the Finder, and go through the files. If you delete them, then you won't have to worry about them importing. Use the Preview pane in the Finder to see the photos. Or maybe this is a good use for Gallery View.

Here's an overview of your options:

But another option is to use the Photos app. The import interface allows you to view all of the photos before you import. So you can select only the ones you want, import them, and then erase the card in the camera to get it ready for the next use.

Would Image Capture be another alternative? Nice thing is it's built into Mac already.
