My 2009 iMac can still interact with my old Canon printer and is still a reservoir for older images converted from film and/or slides, without having them thrown into the Apple Photos program, if my concept is correct. I found that Canon stops maintaining its printers for new iMacs after 10 years, but the ink is still available at a discount. In coming days I will be testing out my theory about my 27" legacy iMac and printing or transferring them to image form in my old Canon color printer.
