I have a MacBook (10.6.2) running on an Airport Extreme. I have hooked up an external HD to the airport extreme, and I can see, read/write, mount, etc., this drive’s partitions on my MBP. However, when I go to my wife’s MacBook, and try to access the Airport Extreme to mount the drive, I get “connection failed”. The computer is on the network, and (e.g.) can access my MBP through the same network. Any suggestions?

Do you have a password set for the disk in the AirPort Utility? If so, maybe double-check it, or try changing it. The other MacBook may have the wrong password saved in the keychain.
Besides that, I'd use AIrport Utility, go to Disks, File Sharing and check all of the settings. Try some different settings to see if it then allows access to both Macs.
I deleted all the keychain passwords. No dice. I reset the password using Airport Utility. I could access it once, then it quit.
OS X 10.6.3 just came out. I THINK it improved my connectivity issues but it has not eliminated the "connection failed" error message that is widely reported to occur with a shared airport disk (airdisk).
I too am trying to update my security and scan for my airport in my airport utility.
I'm right next to my hub and still my scans can't find my airport express.
Why not?
Hard to say without being there. Sounds like the Express isn't set up completely, maybe?
