Molly, according to your comment above, the printer settings have been extended. I have found since upgrading to Leopard that I can't print in grayscale or black and white. Is that true or is there setting I haven't found? There is also no Supplies button on here, and it's not specific to Text Edit documents. Thanks. Ian

Click on the small black triangle next to the printers name in the print dialogue box to bring up the extended print dialogue page.
Click on the black triangle next to the third box and choose Quality & Media from the drop down menu. It usually says Copies & Pages. You can find the supply page here too.
On the second line from the bottom of this page you should see a small box which you can check for greyscale printing
Next time you print, you can click the little arrow on the Preset box [second down] and choose Last Used Setting
This works for my Canon printer & i hope that it works for your printer.

Ian, same question I had when I stumbled on this tutorial. We just bought a color laser jet and I'd like to change the default print preferences to gray scale. Printing in color only when requested.
Changing my Fedora laptop and Windows 7 desktop are very straight forward. I can't find any advanced settings on the mac.
