A New iPod Touch May Be In the Works

A Japanese rumor site reported today that suppliers are mentioning Apple may be looking at developing a new iPod Touch. The current model is from 2015 and at $199 is the cheapest way to get an iOS device. However, while it supports iOS 12, it may be getting too old to support future versions of iOS.

Another interesting part of this rumor is that the new iPod Touch will sport a USB-C connector, much like the new iPad Pro models. This makes sense as Apple is probably looking at all iOS devices going to USB-C, and if the iPod Touch doesn’t get frequent updates, we could be stuck with a 2019 iPod Touch until 2023 or beyond. What is exciting about USB-C on an iPod Touch is that it could potentially be the brains of a larger computing system with an external keyboard and large screen.
