Delete preference files and extensions

What’s the best way to delete unneeded preference files and extensions? Is their any software will do this or do I have to delete manually. Thanks.

You can go in yourself to user/library/preferences and delete them yourself -- especially if you know the specific one you wish to delete and you are backing up with Time Machine anyway so you can always get it back it you delete the wrong one.
This isn't as big of a deal now with the size of today's hard drives as you won't get back enough space to make much of a difference. I never bother with old preference files.
