I was ill advised not to update my computer a long time ago! Now, of course it is very out of date and I would like to update it as far as I can.
It is an iMac (21.5 inch, late 2013)
Processor – 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory – 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Model identifier – iMac 14, 3.
It has had one upgrade to OS X Yosemite, and that is all!
I have found out that I can update it up to the latest compatible operating system: macOS Catalina 10.15.7, but can I update it from where it is, or will I need to do this in stages from OS X Yosemite, which is a number of upgrades behind!

I actually have a video on this coming up. But the page I point to in the video is already there. Go to https://macmost.com/macos-system-requirements-list.html and there you'll find a link to get Catalina from the Mac App Store. You can upgrade directly from Yosemite.
Thank you so much Gary for your quick response.
I will try this out and look forward to working with my updated computer soon :)
Your help and advice is much appreciated.
