Apple Helpdesk in the Netherlands said it was not possible (and that probably will be the case), but still I would like to ask the question in this forum: is there a way, when opening an app on an iMac, to open that app directly in full screen mode?
My eyes are not very good, so I need full screen mode when working with apps most of the time. It’s no big deal if it isn’t possible, but it would just be handy if those apps open in full screen mode directly. It saves me an extra mouse click. Thank you for your response.

For the most part, if you had the app in full screen mode when you quit it, then when you launch it again it will return to full screen mode. But if you have resume turned off in System Preferences, General, "Close Windows When Quitting An App," then when you quit an app the window that is full screen will be closed. So the next time you launch the app it will create a new window, which will not know it is supposed to be full screen.
Remember that full screen mode is for windows, not apps. So if you are using Pages and have a document open in full screen mode, then close that document and quit, the next time you launch Pages it will create a new window and that window won't know you want it to be full screen either.
Thanks a lot for your comment and advice Gary.
