How To Plot a Choice Of 8 Wind Direction Arrows Using Custom Formatting?

While creating a weather-related spreadsheet on Numbers, I was dismayed that Numbers “Custom Formatting” is limited to Default + 3 rules. Is there any work-around? I’m graphing wind directions at S New England locales with 0 45 90 135 180 225 270 315 (degrees) replaced by corresponding arrows.

My intended solution is straight-forward and elegant. I have “clunky” alternatives such as placing 36 1×1 spreadsheets (one for each site) about the map. Not a fan of “clunky”.

You can use a LOOKUP table for this. So if column F has the number in degrees, then column G can have the symbol you want from a table with 8 rows. See https://macmost.com/a-simple-numbers-lookup-example.html
