Missing menu items on Apple menu

hi, I am new apple and am the proud owner of a new apple imac. I seems to have “lost” the menu items on the apple menu. How do I retrieve or re-isntall these menu items.

Which menu items do you mean? The Apple menu should have: About this Mac, Software Update, Mac OS X Software, System Preferences, Dock, Location, Recent Items, Force Quit, Sleep, Restart, Shut Down, and Log Out. Are you missing one or more of these?

I just upgraded to 10.6.6 and the System Preferences item.

That's very odd. Are other items missing too? If restarting doesn't help, I'd think about taking it to the Genius Bar. The next step would be to re-install OS X to see if that fixes it.

Doh! I should have known to try that first. Yes, after a restart, System Prefs reappeared.

        Thanks,
