It turns off after 30 seconds? Sounds to me like it isn't working at all (as opposed to everything working fine). Flashing lights usually mean memory problems. DId you recently install some memory?
I don't know what your experience level is working with hardware. so it is hard to suggest what to do. If you have just installed some memory, try taking it out and putting the original back. If not, then take it in to a shop or Apple Store so they can look at it for you.
