Am I missing something? I have two external HDs for my imac. A 1TB studio drive that acts a little weird sometimes, but usable when I turn it off then back on. It carries my music and video plus other stuff. I also have a WD 320G passport for a Mac that all of the sudden is not readable on my computer. I can feel and hear it working when I plug it in but I just can’t seem to use it. I tried a firmware update from WD but I already have the latest version. Why would it just stop working? Any ideas?

Could be the drives are failing. Could be the cables, too. Try them with another computer if you can, or with different cables. To compare, I've got many Western Digital drives, some external, some mounted via external eSATA dock, and some in external enclosures. Knock on wood, but I've never had any trouble with any of them. And some are several years old at this point.
I'd call WD support and see what they say. Are they under warranty?
I tried multiple cables for both drives. Still the same results. This is a major pain in the butt. Now I am going to have to try and get the stuff I have on there and get a new drive. The passport is not an option anymore. Other than Western Digital, what brand would you recommend that has the best track record?
Don't have another recommendation, sorry. I think almost all mine are WD.
They should be. Both are under a year old.
