A few years ago there was an article on how to be able to email a file from Finder. I was able to do it and then something happened to my MacBook Air and it was no longer there. I think it had to do with a macro of some sort. Can anyone help?

All you need to do is to select the file, then Control+click it and select Share, Mail. This will start a new email message in the Mail app with the file attached.
Of course this isn't much easier than starting the message in Mail and dragging-and-dropping the file into the message. Either way gets you basically the same result.
