I have MacBook Pro 15″,MacOSSierra Version 10.12.2, 2.53 GHz, 4GB memory. My computer was purchased in 2010 and I love it but cannot get rid of the rolling coloured ball and it is unbearably slow. I do believe I have installed programs like anti virus that I do not need and want to know how to find them and delete them.

That is going to depend on the software. You need to figure out what you have installed, and then search for uninstall instructions. But it is impossible to advise without knowing what you have installed.
Look through your Applications folder. Look in System Preferences, Users & Groups, Login Items. Look in your menubar icons at the top left. Look in the Dock to see what, if anything, is running.
If you can't figure it out, I would take it to an expert who can work with your Mac and get rid of anything causing trouble.
Thanks Gary. I am looking in all the places you suggested and moving things to trash that I don't want. How do I know what I can move to trash or have to find out how to uninstall to get permanently rid of it?
Sharlene: You should always uninstall apps, not move them to the Trash unless that is the recommended method for that app. Do searches for "how to uninstall X" to find resources. Use LaunchPad to uninstall any App Store apps.
