Quitting unexpectedly is something that should never happen. Does it only happen while watching video on that one site? Are you using the very latest OS and Safari?
yes gary i just bought 1 of the new imac 21.5 " screen 3.06 gh and 8gb memory snowleopard and the latest safari so far i have just been watchind the training videos from lynda .co so i dont know if it happens any where else yet.
The next thing I would do is to check other video sites. YouTube, Blip.TV, etc. See if this is a problem caused by code on the Lynda site. If it turns out to be only that one site, email their support and see if they know of any issues with the way their site works and Macs.

It suggests trying to uninstall Flash and installing a fresh new copy. Good idea. If you have a brand new machine, you may not have the most recent version of Flash, which is probably used to play back the video.
Safari quits unexpectedly only when I open the New York Times website. Please advise.
Ideas: See if re-installing Flash helps. Try another browser.
I have no problem reaching the Times with Firefox. But I wonder why all of a sudden I can't get to the Times with Safari. How do I reinstall Flash?
I reinstalled Flash Player. No change. When I go to the Times on Safari, it quits.
If they have some sort of support, I would try to contact them.
I think the problem is not with the Times but with Safari.
I have the Version 4.1.3 (4533.19.4) of Safari, the newest I am allowed, I think, with my Version 10.4.11 of Mac OS X.
I went to Safari's trouble shooting page and tried this:
1) removing all 3rd-party plug-ins etc. -- No result.
2) reset Safari -- No result.
I know I am supposed to get a new computer every 2 years or so in order to stay up to date and help the economy, but I can't afford it and I believe it's wrong. Am I being punished for using old versions of this and that and, by the way, for being old myself ???
Thank you.
You can't say that it is Safari's fault or the Times' fault. It is a combination of both. The Times is clearly using something on their pages that isn't compatible with your browser. They could choose to make it compatible with your browser. But perhaps they'd rather have features that work well with newer browsers -- it is a dilemma faced by all developers. "You can't please everyone."
You have options. Upgrade to Leopard, maybe? Or, just try a different browser. I don't think Chrome works with Tiger (OS 10.4) but you should be able to find a version of Firefox that does.
I, too, have OS 10.4 and have been having this problem with Safari. Firefox works fine, but I cannot upgrade to the most recent version of Firefox either. I have a huge database in Excel (Office '04 comma delimitated) that was moved from a Works ( obsolete) database. So I don't want to upgrade, and lose this job-related database. Must I? How about loading an older version of an OS, yet, newer than what I have? I guess I have to go to the Apple store, but was hoping for imput from you first.
If you are on 10.4, then you are three versions behind. You can certainly go to 10.5 (Leopard) or 10.6 (Snow Leopard, if you are on an Intel Mac).
Not sure what Office 04 works with. You'll have to do some research if you don't want to upgrade something.
Thanks, Gary, I'd love to upgrade, it's not the cost.... it's getting my Excel 'database' which started life as a Works Database to move up as well. I do know the newest version isn't compatible. We had been on a PC and went back to the iMac in 06. Our first computer about 20 years ago was an Apple, only reluctantly switched when the kids begged us to..... now they are coming around to iMac/iPad/iPod like their folks. Luckily, there is a store nearby. yes, it's a 10.4.11 1.83 GHz Intel.
If it is an Excel database, then I don't see how it can't work on the latest version of Excel. Export it in a standard format, perhaps?
Sounds reasonable. The original issue was getting it into excel. The apple tech did a comma delimited transfer- whatever that means. Then, when I got home, I was not able to use it correctly, it was all smushed up-line on top of line. I had to inquired to all my friends and relatives; does anyone still have Works so I could email it to them, and they could open it and then email it back to me. I'm probably not explaining it the best way, but it was a big problem. Still, I have info for about 2500 entries which would have to be done again in a database program. And for a one man part time recruiter, that is a whole lot of work.
Sounds like he gave you a CSV (comma separated variable) file. Just a text file with a comma between each entry in your spreadsheet. You can certainly import that into Excel (04, 11, whatever). But perhaps you didn't choose CSV when you imported?
Anyone with lots of Excel experience should be able to get that CSV file into Excel. I'd seek help from a database expert.
