Rounded Column Corners In Numbers
6/27/18
A new feature in Numbers is the ability to round the corners in column and bar charts. You can use this to soften the corners or to completely round the ends of the bars. This also works in the latest versions of Pages and Keynote.
Print Pages Per Sheet To Save Paper
6/26/18
You can use the Pages Per Sheet setting in the Print dialog box of almost any app to combine 2, 4 or more pages to one sheet of paper. This makes the print smaller, but can be useful if you are trying to save paper or only print a backup copy of some information.

This simple app that will come as standard in iOS 12 will let you measure things in the real world using your iPhone's camera. In reality, though, the measurements aren't accurate enough for any real use, so I'm not sure about the purpose of the app other than to show off a bit of augmented reality.

Clearing Your Mac Safari Browser Cache
6/25/18
Safari keeps a cache of files to speed up page loading and minimize bandwidth usage. For the most part it maintains itself. But if you need to clear the cache while publishing or developing a website, you can do so using one of several methods in Safari. You can clear all data from a specific site, enable the Develop menu to clear the cache with a keyboard shortcut, or manually delete the cache files in the Finder.
Technical Terms: Wi-Fi
6/22/18
Wi-Fi is a made-up term that refers to the way we connect wirelessly to our networks and the Internet beyond. People use a variety of terms to describe Wi-Fi Base Stations, but each has a subtly different meaning.

Some Macs come with a Backspace key. Some Macs come with a Delete key. Unless you have an old enough Mac to have both, these keys work in the same way, removing the character before the text cursor. If you are looking to delete the character after the cursor, there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that. But all you need to do is to hold the FN key and then press your Backspace or Delete key to get this function. FN+Option+Delete will delete the whole word in front of the cursor.

Using Temporary Finder Tags To Gather Files
6/21/18
Tags are useful for many things. One idea is to use them to flag files to gather them together for a single use without moving the files from the folders where they reside. For instance, you may want to gather together files to send to someone or save a copy to an archive.

Want to see all sorts of data about your mobile signal strength on your iPhone. If you dial a secret number you get into a special Field Test Mode with all sorts of menus. I'm not sure what a lot of this means, but I assume you can use this to see the signal strength of your current connection, and perhaps things about your SIM card and such.Guaranteed to break the ice at parties!

Faster iPhone Typing With Predictive Text
6/20/18
The Predictive Text feature in iOS helps you save taps by trying to predict the next work you want to type and giving you a button to type it with one tap. Predictive text will show you suggestions based on context so sometimes it will seem like magic as it guesses what you want to write before you know. With some practice it can save time and frustration when typing on your small iPhone screen.
Pages Backgrounds
6/19/18
A new feature in Pages allows you to create color, gradient or image backgrounds in Page Layout documents. You can stretch or tile images across the page. You can also tint the image to fit your needs.

How To Change Your Apple ID Email Address
6/18/18

If you are using a third-party email address as your Apple ID, you may need to change it if you are losing that email address or plan to move on to another email service. Apple has a page that spells out the steps needed to change which email address is used as your Apple ID.

Technical Terms: Virus and Malware
6/15/18
People often use the term Virus when what they really should be saying is Malware. A computer virus is a very dangerous type of malware that can spread from computer to computer on its own. Malware is a more general term that can be correctly used to describe viruses, trojan horses, adware, spyware and more. It is better to use the term Malware unless you know for a fact that the problem is a virus.

Did you know you can get current weather conditions and a forecast using Spotlight? The results can appear quicker than even using Siri. Just use Command+space to bring up spotlight and then type Weather. Depending on other factors, the forecast may appear even before you type the whole word. You can get weather for a different location by adding “in” and the location name or postal code.

Customizing Your Dock's Appearance
6/14/18
There are many settings on a Mac that determine how the Dock appears. You can change the size, hide it when not needed, and even move it to the left or right sides of the screen. You can change these settings in System Preferences, or by Control+clicking on the divider line in the Dock.

ScreenTime is the new feature of iOS 12 that lets you view your iPhone/iPad usage and set personal limits on a device or per-app basis. It gives you tools to deal with how much time of your day you are using your mobile device, should you want to use it less. I like that Apple is giving tools for those who want them, but they are simply optional things that most of us can ignore.

The iOS Built-In Dictionary
6/13/18
The iPhone and iPad have a built-in dictionary that doesn't appear as an individual app, but as a resource you can access Safari, text editing and other apps. You can look up any work you have selected. You can also look up words directly and quickly narrow search results to only show the definition. You can customize which dictionaries are used as well.
Combining Images With Preview
6/12/18
You can use Preview to combine more than one image into a single image. By using a trick to start a new document, and then resizing, copying and pasting other images into the new document, you can create a collage of images. Then you can export in the format of your choice to use in video projects, online posting, and so on.
Using Wildcards In Numbers Formulas
6/11/18
You can use the wildcard characters question mark and asterisk in some Numbers functions to get more powerful results. In this example, we'll look at using a SUMIF function that sums rows that match only a portion of a string, rather than an exact match.

OK, you've really got to watch this. It is just a sample. A quick demo.I'll wait... Done? Well, what do you think? Back when Animoji were introduced last year with the iPhone X, I was super excited that one day we would be able to create our own Animoji characters. And if that happened, I would try to use them in videos in place of, well, actual me. Lets face it (pun intended), there's nothing special about me. I'm not going to attract any new viewers to MacMost with my smile. That's not what MacMost is about anyway. It is about the information and learning how to get the most from your Mac, right? (Not that I didn't try to have a pretty face for MacMost, as those of you who remember MacMost from 2007 will know). So with the new Memoji in iOS 12, I can do this. I don't need a backdrop. I don't need a good camera. I don't need to worry about my hair, or if I have a big mosquito bite on my forehead (I actually do, right now, from camping). I don't know if I'm going to switch to this any time soon. But I want to keep playing with it. Maybe I'll do a few here and there like this to see what others say.
