Address book double last names

I keep getting a double last name from some people in my address book mainly from emails.
It doesn’t happen with all names, just on some. I’m not sure if it’s happening from their end or mine.
I keep correcting my address book, but it keeps happening.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Peter

So when you check in your address book, their last name is like "Smith Smith"?
Once you correct it, does it stay fixed for that person? Or does it switch back for that person? How are you adding these contacts to your address book? Using the function in Mail that does it?

Right. It will say John Smith Smith. But the second Smith would be in the slot "Last" as in last name.

Once I correct it, it seems to stay fixed for a while, then it goes back to double. That's why I'm not sure if the problem is coming from their end.

Most of the time I add them from the email that I get. Under "Message" I choose "Add Sender To Address Book".

I don't understand your last question: "Using the function in Mail that does it?"

I just realized something. The way I've been entering the names in my Address Book is by putting the first and last names both in the "First" name slot. This way when I transfer the Address Book to my iTouch, all the names are listed by the first name in Bold ink. When I do it the other way, e.i. first name in First, and last name in Last, the first name comes out in regular "ink" and the last name comes out Bold and it just seems harder to locate name in my iTouch this way.

    Could that be the reason?

    Thanks

It sounds like you may have hit on the reason. Some experiments might be able to prove it.
