Formating a Flash Drive

Coming from the world of Windows I may be unaware of any different way this is handled, but how does one go about formatting a flash drive (thumb drive) in Snow Leopard?

Right-click reveals many options, including delete, but nothing like “format”. But I did find an option in the Disk Utility Manager whereby the tab is labeled “Erase”, but the options include the ability to format the device in various manners.

What should I be doing to make the best use of the flash drive, which I will be using to transfer files between a Mac and Windows computer?

Thanks.

Disk Utility is the best way to format a Flash drive. See episode 321 -- http://macmost.com/using-disk-utility-to-format-drives.html
If you want to move between Mac and Windows, then format it FAT32 so windows will understand the format.
