How Do I Convert WMV Video To Mac?

Hi, is there a way to convert video with a wmv extension to something Mac compatible?

I recorded repairs to my house with a camcorder in 2008 before I owned a Mac.

Yes. But it depends on what sort of video compression codec the WMV file is using. Can you open them in QuickTime Player? If so, then just do that and export from QuickTime Player. Otherwise, you'll need another app.

One you can use is VLC to do it. See https://macmost.com/using-vlc-to-view-unplayable-video.html

You probably can also use Apple's Compressor app. But that costs $50 and I've never tried to use it to convert WMV. I assume it works.

If those fail, then just search in the Mac App Store for "convert WMV" and a bunch of apps will do it.

Thanks! It would not play with QuickTime so I will try the other.

VLC worked! I was able to convert easily too. One puzzle is my MacBook’s preference to play with Apple TV. What is that about and is the converted file (I used the top choice for mp3) ever playable in QuickTime?

Joyce: I'm not sure what you are asking here. Are you asking about playing your videos from your Mac to your Apple TV (and television). Can you restart the question?

Yes, there are a bunch of apps will help you to convert WMV, not only the converters, but also some video editors. Such as the TunesKit AceMovi Video Editor I am using, it has many kinds of functions, like screen record, video edit, and you can export the video format, file size as you want.
