How To Remove GarageBand Application?

I am trying to upgrade my MacBook OS from macOS Mojave to macOS Big Sur. The music creation (GarageBand) occupies 1.17 GB, I have removed the application (GarageBand) still shows 1.17 GB occupied in storage.

Appreciate it if you could let me know how to completely delete the Garage Band application so that I can install the Big Sur OS.

Not sure where you see that GarageBand is still using the space. You don't mention that. But GarageBand does rely on a log of music library files that wouldn't be deleted if you just moved the app to the trash.

First, go to your Library folder. Not the System library folder, but YOUR Library folder. To do that, hold down the Option key and select the Go menu in the Finder. Then you'll see the Library folder as an option. Go there.

Now look in Application Support for a GarageBand folder. Delete that.
Then go back up and look for an Audio folder. If that is there, look for Apple Loops and delete that.

Gary, I have successfully deleted GarageBand and the folders you describe above are gone…GarageBand and audio. However, there is a significant amount of data showing up as "music creation". When I do a query of my total storage. When I go to the manage storage step, it shows up, but I have not found any way to delete this. I am guessing it may be some of the musical lessons I downloaded from GarageBand. Any suggestions how to delete this data?

Mike: Look in your library folder again, then for Audio/Apple Loops. See what you have there.

Thanks. Deleted audio folder, but it was empty and there’s no change. Wouldn’t matter so much, but it is over 9Gb of data I don’t use.

Mike: Not sure what else it could be. Look through your Library folder, sorted by size and investigate. Should be easy to spot 9GB.

Your advice WORKED! I used your video #1958 as a guide. As well, the YouTube video you posted with eight suggestions…..specifically, don’t give up trying. It took a bit of sorting, but your #1958 walked me through the process.

What is the title of video 1958 please? I couldn’t find video 1958 using the search bar.
