Migration MacBook Pro 15 to MacBook Pro 17

When I purchased the MacBook Pro 17 I was told that I could transfer (migrate) all files from my 15 to the 17. I asked for specifics and what ALL meant and I was told that ALL meant ALL. That I could transfer every single file including the installed software. Is that true? Would I need a firewire 400 o 800? Thanks

Yes, everything will transfer if migration assistant works properly. You will need a firewire cable that connects from the firewire port on one Mac to the firewire port on the other. So it may very well be a 400 to 800 cable, if your old one is 400 and your new is 800. Then run migration assistant and follow the instructions.

    Use wireless networking!

The problem there is speed. It will take probably 40 times longer to transfer large files over a wireless network.

Got it! Thanks a lot. I am amazed at how painless the migration was. Again, thanks.
